REEF Fish ID Expert Patti Chandler and UW Videographer
Scott Chandler will be at CoCo View this summer!
CoCo View, once again, is leading the way in Marine Education and Conservation on Roatan. Actively promoting their status of official REEF Field Station, they will be hosting The Great Annual Fish Count for the seventh year in a row. Patti and Scott will share their expertise with the guests at CoCo View from June 22 to July 20 this coming summer 2013. The Chandlers are well known for their work in marine life documentation, spending the summer months recording fish species, behaviors and creatures for future study and identification. You may recognize Scott and Patti from ReefNet Inc.‘s show booth at your regions scuba show.
CoCo View guests will enjoy several multimedia Fish ID seminars for novices to advanced fish watchers for free during their stay. Several times a week, narrated, unedited raw video taken from the previous days dives will be offered for your viewing and continued education in marine life. The video often shows behavior that is not normally seen by many divers. One of Scott's specialties is shooting in Hi-Def ultra macro video, taping interesting fishes and creatures too small to see with the naked eye.
This summer's event will allow divers the opportunity to participate in The Great Annual Fish Count, an annual event held in July. This is a REEF (Reef Environmental Education Foundation) event. Its purpose is to introduce divers and snorkelers to the activity of fish watching and counting, and, to educate the public about our marine environment. Guests at CoCo View can get involved by attending the free Fish ID seminars and participate in completing post dive fish surveys. Information gathered in the surveys is entered into REEF's public-accessible database and made available to divers, marine researchers, and other interested parties. Additional activities will include locating the "Wanted" fish du jour, identification of fish within a family, a tally of sighted species for the week and more educational fun and prizes.
